The bot fly lives in cities, rainforests, farms and a lot of
other places to. The bot fly looks like a housefly but is a much more dangerous. The bot fly and the housefly have a lot in common. They have hairy legs, walk up walls, and their color is black. But the only thing they don't have in common is that bot flies lay eggs a lot different. The bot fly grows at least up to ¾ inches. The horse bot fly and human bot flies life cycles are different. The larvae of a horse bot are parasites of horses and are known as bots. The larvae become parasitic when licked by the horse. They are laid mostly on the horse's leg, and when licked the they spread to the mouth. The larvae eventually migrate to the stomach where they attach to the inner lining with their bodies exposed to the stomach. When mature they exit in the feces then pupate. Adult fly may live for a few days while they mate and lay eggs.| The human bot life cycle. The female lies up to about 5-7 eggs in the human. They are mostly laid around the arm on the host. The larvae eat the hosts blood, cells, and veins in the host. When the adult is ready to exit out it starts eating the layer of skin. After it comes out the host will at least live to 5-7 days later. The adult bots don't eat. But some may move to Florida throughout the year. |
