Is Freedom Free?
By: Kelsey

My grandpa enlisted, and fought in the war of World War II at the age of 18 - 23. During that long time, he was taken prisoner by the terrible Germans (they were the enemies back then). He lost his freedom for 6 long months waiting for the war to end; he got skinnier and skinnier. When he got out, and went back home, he had to go see a doctor. The doctor got him back to normal again.

My grandpa married my grandma, and they had 4 girls. One of those girls turned out to be my mom. My mom married my dad and they had my brother and me. For those reasons, about my grandpa, I do not think freedom is free. To me freedom is similar to buying goods and other things. You have to pay for it, even if you don't get enough.

I think the above example shows we pay for freedom. We didn't have freedom for free before the people in the war fought for it. People died in the war for letting other people have freedom, they risked their lives for everyone's freedom. For the one's who didn't die, they lived on for many years remembering World War II.

Freedom was not free for those sailors who were involved in the terrible bombing of Pearl Harbor. These boys were at least 18 years old, and fought in the war representing this country, The United States of America. The Japanese were the ones who launched the bombs. They were the ones who kind of started World War II because they bombed Pearl Harbor by surprise.

It took 4 years to fight World War II. Many, many Americans died. Many Japanese and Germans died, also. You may not agree with what I am going to say, but I think freedom is definitely not free.

What do you think? Is freedom free?
