On September 6th and 7th the students,
staff and a few parents took a special field trip to the Girl
Scout / DAWN Camp at Dexter. Dexter is about 7 miles north of
Nome on the Kougarok Road. At the camp students participated
in a wide variety of activities. Students engaged in team
building activities with Marsha Morealli of Nome Community
Partnership, taught orienteering techniques
by Hank Irelan, mapped the camp with
teacher Lisa Leeper, and collected aquatic
organisms and performed water quality tests with Teacher
Todd Hindman. Guest speakers
from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the National
Park Service were invited to camp to make presentations. The
students also had some time just to have
fun, whether it was playing football, hanging out, or roasting
marshmallows. Parents came out
for a spaghetti dinner and to cook breakfast. |
