Nome National Forest (Seasonal)

To live in Nome, it helps to have a good  sense of humor.  The Nome National Forest is an example of that humor.  It began back in the early 90's and continues today.  Each year after Christmas, Christmas trees are recycled by freezing them into the sea ice below a local restaurant.  This year students added new figures to go out in the "forest," the first in about nine years.

Climate change may indeed be occurring! Along with the usual Alaskan animals that are found in the Nome National Forest, many non indigenous species moved in this year, including a giraffe, two camels, a duck, a mouse, and a frozen tourist.
