Color Theory: A Study of Jackson Pollock

James Adcox, a substitute teacher for ACSA taught a one day study of color. The students briefly studied the

various styles of art ranging from realistic (representational) to abstract to non-objective (simply paint on a canvas).

This talk led into the modern artist Jackson Pollock (jack the dripper). James discussed the controversy

around his paintings;from harsh criticism in its application to the fact that he used house paint.

We watched a short video on how Pollock painted and then attempted to do it ourselves.
First, James had eight students stand on the drop cloths without shoes, and had them carefully consider

if they wanted to use the color of liquid flowing paint in front of them. If not, they waited until we rotated paint cans.

We rotated paint cans eight times and then had them set their painting to dry and had a new batch of students try it.

Here are a few examples of their work.
