My Dream for America
By: Nicholai

My dream for America is for pollution to be cleaned up in cities around the country. The United States Environmental Protection agency says that many urban areas tend to have high levels of "bad" ozone, but some rural areas also do because ozone is carried by wind from its original source. Exhaust from cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles are one of the largest pollutants helping to create ozone.

I also dream that there would not be as many people in poverty across the nation. A total of 14.5 percent of our nations population is in poverty, 42.6 percent of which are males, and the other 57.4 percent are females; 42.4 percent of people in poverty live in a central city, 31.8 percent live in a suburban area, and the last 25.8 percent live in nonmetropolitan areas according to the U.S. Census Breau . One way of helping out the poor would be if the wealthy would donate a fraction of their incomes to charitable organizations.

For those who are in poverty it is difficult to get affordable health care. Nearly one quarter of the 44 million uninsured people in our nation are children says U.S. Senate candidate Blair Hull. Right now, in Orange County, California, 71,000 grocery workers are either on strike or locked out of Albertson's, Ralph's, or Von's supermarkets to fight against losing company paid health care.

A solution to making healthcare more affordable would be higher minimum wages. The Fair Labor Standards Act says that workers are entitled to an minimum wage of not less than $5.15 an hour, with over time pay not less than one and a half of times their regular rates of pay after working 40 hours in one week says the US Department of labor. Alaska has the highest minimum wage at $7.15 an hour.

If just some of this would happen our nation would be a much safer, and more secure place to live, with more money one could afford some type of a security system for their home, or even have a home. Less people would be in poverty throughout the nation. Wouldn't that be nice.
