My "dreams" for America are, to reduce poverty in America, and to raise the minimum wage rate. The minimum wage rate in most states is barely enough to raise a family or even to live by yourself. The percent of Americans who live in poverty may not be the highest in the world but, it is still pretty high.

If the minimum wage rate was raised, the percent of Americans who live in poverty would be lowered because a lot of Americans live off of a minimum wage. If it was raised, Americans would be better off. Other Americans may have to pay a few more cents on taxes, but you would be able to have the satisfaction of knowing that your money is going to people who live in poverty. A lot of people may think that this would be charity or like a modern day Robin Hood stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, but this could be good. The Americans who were living in poverty may be able to say "I'm not living in poverty anymore" and all of this happened because some people paid a few extra pennies or dollars.

Right now the federal minimum wage rate is at $5.15. Alaska has the highest minimum wage rate at $7.15. If somebody worked a typical 40 hour week at the federal minimum wage of $5.15 an hour that only comes out to about $200 a week. After taking away taxes it's practically nothing. Especially if you have to raise a family off of that.

If you think about this, you might realize why I want the minimum wage rate higher. It would reduce poverty, help Americans be better off and make our nation a better place.
