Today's Patriots Second Place: Junior High Division |
|
A patriot is someone who loves his or her country. There were a lot of loyalists in the past, George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., etc., but who are those of today? They are harder to find. However there will always be one group you can count on to be patriots': soldiers. "First and foremost I am an American. I believe in American values, family, loyalty and honesty," wrote Army Sgt. 1st Class Ed Roderques in replied to letter written to him from care package sent from Ohio, (defendamerica.mil/profiles.html). Roderques is a soldier in Afghanistan. He believes that the United States is something we should be proud and thankful for. He doesn't think anyone needs to feel guilty that we have so much more than kids in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. "America was no accident. It is as deliberate as the most well planned military operation and it must be appreciated," said Roderiques. His coworkers say that he inspires them and "is a true patriot." Anyone could be a patriot or help one. Kids in school often send care packages; goodies, letters, etc., to soldiers in the War Against Terrorism. Thousands of miles away from home who wouldn't want to that someone cares? Whether its known or not, everyone needs help in some way. Soldiers could use our help keeping up a positive attitude in war. All of us should be patriots by doing charitable work and supporting our troops. The War Against Terrorism is thought be started on September 11, 2001, when terrorist hijacked planes in suicide attempts and ran into the Twin Towers in New York, but that's just the reason we invaded Iraq, to find the leader of the hijacking group. But I believe that the reason our patriotic soldiers continue to fight in Iraq is because we found a country in need. Our soldiers serve and protect out country. They will help whoever, whenever. They are today's patriots. Works-cited |
