The Three Musketeers By Alexandre Dumas Reviewed by Eddie |
| The Three Musketeers is about 3 men who are King Louis XIV.'s musketeers. A musketeer is a member of the French royal household bodyguard in the 17th and 18th centuries. The main character is D'Artagnan, who was not a musketeer at the beginning of the book. D'Artagnan is young, around 20, and is better at fencing than most musketeers. The musketeers are Porthos, Aramis, and Athos. Before D'Artagnan became a musketeer, he battled the three musketeers while delivering a letter. Then he meets M.D'Treville and becomes a musketeer and is given a musketoon, a musket, and a few pistols. D'Artagnan also gets a lackey named Planchet. A lackey is a male servant in uniform or a footman. Then D'Artagnan meets Milady and finds out that she was branded with a fleur-de-lis. A fleur-de-lis is an iris, especially a white one. But before D'Artagnan finds out that Milady was branded, he meets Kitty, Milady's maiden. Kitty is also young, maybe in her 20's too. Then D'Artagnan and Kitty become close friends. D'Artagnan and Kitty almost become lovers! Then D'Artagnan goes on a journey to stop Milady from killing the Duke of Buckingham, but he gets assassinated. But before D'Artagnan met Milady, Athos said that he was her husband and Milady thought that Athos was dead. She then found out that Athos was still alive. But before Milady thought that Athos was dead, Athos found out that Milady was branded and became her ex-husband. After D'Artagnan found out that she was branded, he also found out that she was going to kill him for revenge. Later on, the executioner of Lille executed Milady. Then Athos became a musketeer under the service of D'Artagnan until the year 1633. | |
