The book takes place in the late 1980's in a small town in Mississippi,
called Millville. The characters are Ellen, Ellen's father Joe,
her friend Jimmy-Clyde, and two animals; their horse named Sleet
and her dog, Turbo. Ellen's mother had gotten sick and died when
Ellen was 10. Her brother Billy had been thrown off of Sleet
a year earlier and died. Ellen has been afraid of the horse ever
since. Her father keeps skipping from one job to another. He
lands a job as a calendar salesman. Then a local boy is kidnapped! Using some detective skills, Ellen finds out who the kidnapper is and the whereabouts of the boy. Can Ellen overcome her fear of Sleet and save the boy's life? This is an extremely good mystery book. I recommend it to all ages. I like this book because it teaches people that things are not always what they seem. |
