The book takes place in modern times. The main character is Bobby Garrick.

Bobby, the class clown, has made a bet with his friend Tyrone. The bet is that Bobby can't get into the Book of Records for not doing his homework. Little does Bobby know that this bet will have a serious consequence. Bobby's teacher, Mr. Matous, wants to keep Bobby in the public school. The school principal, Dr. Deal wants to send Bobby to the School of Intervention. Now, Bobby actually did do one piece of homework. It was an assignment to write an essay about what would make their school better. Bobby wrote about a Laugh- Off. A Laugh-Off is a contest between teachers and students to see who could tell the funniest joke. Mr. Matous and Dr. Deal are willing to excuse all of his unexcused homework, if he performs the Laugh-Off.

In the Laugh-Off it's down to two contestants: Bobby Garrick and Mr.Matous. It's the moment of truth: Who is the funniest person in school? You'll have to read the book to find out!

I liked this book because it made me laugh as I read each paragraph, and because you can learn a lot about friendship and family. I recommend this book to nine years old and older.
