The book takes place in the years of 1692-1900. The main characters are two feuding families, the Fiers and the Goodes.

Under the authorization of Benjamin Fier, innocent Susannah and Martha Goode are burned at the stake. William Goode, Martha's husband and Susannah's father, will stop at nothing to avenge his family's death. It is true, the two women were wrongly accused of witchcraft, but William Goode was in fact, a warlock. He put a curse on the Fier family.

The Fiers ran away from Wickham and started a new life in the Western Pennsylvania frontier. But, as far away as they traveled, the Fiers could not escape William Goode. He tracked them down, bewitched one of their daughters and killed them slowly, so they would suffer one by one.

Will the Fiers escape William Goode, once again? If they do, how will it be done? Who will survive William Goode's wrath? To find out you must read The Betrayal.

I liked the book because it had a good and well-planned plot, and it was fun trying to figure out who had been carrying out the Goode's curse. I recommend this book to ten years old and older.
